Difference between 1500 and 2500 Consumer Reports
Hi everyone,
The recent Consumer Reports article has been discussed here at length, however did anyone pick up the noted differences between the Ram 1500 and 2500? It seems that Consumer Reports likes the 1500, however gives the 2500 less than the 1500. Why is that? I am correct in that the only real differences between the two are the front end's and the weight capacity, correct? So if that is true how then could the 1500 be so much better than the 2500?

depends on what part u are talking about. the 1500 will ride better, get better milage on gas engine due to lighter weight. or was it a mega cab? 1500 megacabs are 3/4 ton chassis and running gear with 1/2 ton springs. a 1500 quad or reg cab 4x4 has independent front suspension while the 1500 mega has a straight axle because it has 3/4 ton running gear.there's really little to compare between 1500's,2500's,or megacabs in my opinion as they are all apples and oranges u know, all different. but thats my opinion,just like that article is one mans opinion. drive them all and form ur own is best i say!
It all comes down to what you need the truck for and what you want to pay for it. If you are single and no family or work crew. there is really no need for the Mega cab imo. All are great trucks. I have a Diesel and do not tow anything, I wanted the longitivity of the motor and the solid front axle. it worked for me.
All that the 1500 and 2500 have in common is the hemi and body, options.
The 2500 rides like a truck, the 1500 is a car pretending to be a pickup.
I need a real truck, so a gas no MDS 2500 reg cab 4x4 is what I bought and the mileage on the highway is no worse than a 1500 with MDS

CR doesn't like the ride the heavy duty suspension gives
when totally unloaded and running light.
In fairness, shouldn't a 3/4 ton pickup be judged for ride
with at least 1200+ lbs of cargo in the bed?

they claim the Ram 2500 brakes are hard to modulate
and get short stops with.
