I had a simular problem with my truck...I took it to a dealer in Scottsdale and they were WONDERFUL! they put in a new tranny and Torque converter...all under warranty... it really comes down to the dealer and how much they care about the customer...

on and Grinding and Whining..... is definately NOT normal... my new tranny doesn't make a sound...

+100.

Most of it DOES come down to the individual dealer ship. Customer service is all but dead in this country anymore.....

Bow your heads for a moment of silence.

I work a a chrysler dealership, I have for about 5 years. Warranty repairs pays us 75.00$ an hour our regular rate is 85.00 to 100.00 an hour depending on the job. So they don't make more on warranty. They do make about 10% on parts throught warranty versus 30% regular none warranty work. We are pretty legit if there is a problem we will try to fix it. Now when our warranty cost get high we loose some of our dsa (dealer self autorize) so we have to call out rep from Chrysler and he make the go ahead or not, on certain jobs.Depending if that group is high or not.If you do you maint there usually is no issue from us we have to fix it. Now when it's out of warranty we can't just fix it Chrysler won't pay us. we arn't he to work for free. I no i'm not. Now if it is close to warranty like says 5000km we can good will it if we want to. depending on the custumer but thats is it. Most of the things that happen are at the reps level. As a tech I loose alot of money with warranty because the labour times are so bad, i need the regular paying jobs to make a living

My 2 cents... Dealerships do not pay for warranty repairs, the MFG does. Dealerships do make a profit on warranty repairs. The parts department DOES make a profit on warranty repairs. Its just not as much profit as customer pay repairs. Techs are paid a set amount of time for doing a warranty repair and it is always less than customer pay repairs. The MFG doesn't care how long it takes to actually fix something, they will only pay apredetermined amount. A good Tech will break even or better in the long run. A good dealership is not about trying to get out of warranty repairs, But is about building a good customer relationship. As far as some of the complaints about dealers not just replacing transmissions when there is a "noise or whine". A dealer has to do a work sheet on what is actually wrong with the trans. If the cost of fixing/rebuilding it is less than 70% of replacing the trans, the MFG will not pay for a new unit. If the dealer puts one in, he has to send the "damaged" one in to be inspected by the MFG. Ifthe MFG determines that the trans should have been fix/repaired instead of replaced, they WILL charge the total cost of the repair back to the dealer. Thats why dealers are learly to replace a trans just because you think it needs to be replaced. EVERYBODY has a horror story about a dealership, but lumping them all together and saying that they are all dishonest is so unfair.

This says it all right here. Warranty work pays less than other work. Also, the bean counters are watching the warranty repairs made by a dealership. If they run costs up fixing "non essential" issues (whining noises, grinding) then they have less discretion to fix other issues.

Total BS. I'm not sure other dealers are this way. Mazda jumped at chance to fix even minor issues.

The dealers generally love warranty work because there is not an upset customer and there is no haggling about the repair. The margin is lower but there is no risk. If it's a legit repair, they get reimbursed.

It is all about the dealership and thier attitude. I have had several Dodges from the same dealership because both the buying and servicing experiences have been painless. They don't make a fortune off me, but I have had something of theirs in my driveway since the seventies.

Having owned pickups from all of the "big 3", I can only say that Dodge has a long way to slide down before they will even come close to being on the **** poor level of Ford. I had no problem with the Chevy dealership, it was just that I had major electronic issues with the truck. Every company builds their share of lemons. I just happen to love the 3rd gen Rams. The other two don't even come close IMO.
