Default Truck's back from the dealership

If you recall, I had the issue with finding a "piece of metal" in my rear axle upon replacing the fluids... it was a broken LSD clutch-pack retaining clip.

The dealership replaced the 4 retaining clips for the 9.25 rear with LSD, with a newer, heavier, updated clips. Wonder why it wasn't a recall, if DC went to the extent of designing a "new" clip, read: One that doesn't break..... ???

It's disheartening that you spend $25K+ on a vehicle, and have to tolorate petty, little things like poor design on something that's been around forever.[:@]

I was affraid of mine grenading on me, so when I changed my gears from 3.55 to 4.56 I opted for a Detroit TrueTrac. I only had 30k on my truck, but I've seen lower mileage units fail. Hope everything works out for you.

The problem isn't just that the clip breaks..... After itbreaks on one end, it rotates, and flips outward. As this happens, the center section rotates (as you drive) and the broken end of the clipscrapes against the inside of the axle housing, causing metal fragments/debris to permiate the oil and eventually takes out the bearings and gears.

If it's repaired {{fingers/toes/********* crossed}} it should be fine, due to the updated clips. My housing had no internal damage, nor no excesive amounts of "sparklies" in the fluid, or resting on the bottom. It was caught just in time....

I can see why you replaced your gears, with all the failures I've read about......
