48RE??
Hi all,
New to the forum and looking for a new (USED!) truck. I've been looking for a 2003-2005 RAM 2500. I would love to get the 2500 cummins but need to justify the extra $$. I primarily want to be able to tow. ~ 5500 lbs regularly but up to 9000 occasionally.
I've heard the 48RE was the best trans out there for the Dodge but is it ONLY in Cummins powered trucks?? Can I get the Hemi with the 48 RE?? Or is the 48 RE in all the 2500 / 3500 series trucks? It seems plenty of people are still having trans woes no matter what....
Thanks!
JD

As far as I know the 545RFE is the only transmission you can get with the Hemi. And the 48RE is the only transmission you can get with the Diesel engine. I don't tow much but the 545RFE is a very good transmission. It has proven to be a much better transmission than the ones that came behind the older 2nd gen trucks. At least if you go with the 2500-HEMI-545RFE combo, you'll get the beefier transfer case...
