Default Need new key

What is the cheapest way to get a new key made for my truck. It only came with one and I need another one before this one is lost. The dealer says 175 for a key and a keyless entry fob. The locksmith says 65 just for the key and the programming of the key.Can autozone or someone like that program the key? Any help would be great. I have seen the keys on ebay, do those work ok??? Sorry for the long post..

On my 2005 the fob is separate from the key. You should be able to go anywhere and get a cheap key made. My Dad made one where he works and it's just a plain metal key and works great.

The Laramine has the Silver key which is the sentry to prevent theft. you have two options. Pay to have it done (expensive) or get two copies at the local home depot or local locksmith. then zip the the original key as close to possible to the ignition under the dash so it picks up the code when you use regular keys. that is what a lot of low budget alarm companies will do with remote start.

It is the gray key with the chip inside, I have been told by the dealer that it has to be programmed. I saw on ebay that I can get a key and a fob for about 30 bucks total and then just have the key programmed. They say that I can program the fob myself with my good fob, but I have to have 2 keys in order to program the key, which I only have one. Has anyone ever bought any off ebay.

Although you probably can get Home Depot to make a key for you, you're better off getting it from the dealership..With the computer codes and all, you don't want to be messing around....Next thing you know, you'll mess up the ignition or something.

If your locksmith says $65 for the key, fob and programing I would go there. That would be the fastest, aside from the dealer.
