Loose Gas Cap = Pain in the A$$!
So I had the oil changedlast week at mylocal Meineke shop. Stopped to fill her up afterwords and as I'm driving home the MIL light pops on. I stop there the next day and ask him if its coincidence it came on after the oil change. The gas cap was loose after the fill up, so I assumed that was it, but I wanted to cover my *** in case the guy did something to cause an issue during the oil change.
The guy who runs the shop, cool dude I've seen for years with various vehicles told me it's probably the gas cap, and not to worry. He hooked up the unit, but said they only had codes for Dodges up to 2005 and I couldn't pull the negative line on the battery due to current Chryslers not resetting the computer properly without being programmed by the factory computer.
I check the boards here and attempt the ignition trick to pull the code, doesn't work. I tried it countless times. Perhaps it doesn't apply to the 07's?
Anyway I drive a few days with it, and head over to the dealer on Saturday. They hook it up and clear the code. I'm happy it wasn't an actual issue with the engine or tranny, but should a loose gas cap really require that much drama?
Suffice it to say, I now tighten the cap carefully after each fill up!
Lesson learned!

I pull off the positive wire off my battery and leave for 10-15 minutes whenever my I need to reset my computer. Never failed yet.
Lol. did you pay anything to the dealer? The same thing happened to me after clering the code myself with the dianostics tool i rented from the auto store. The light kept coming back on so took it to the dealers. What a bunch of theives those guys are real peices of work. First they told me it was the gas cap and to make sure it was tight ..comeon i had tried that the first 2 times i cleared it. Then they manager told me if it happened again to take it back. Never mentioned anything about a charge.Well it did come back so i called them, they said they needed to do a diagnostics on it again and there was going to be a charge again. I said no way . I refuse to go there unless i absolutely have to.Ordered my SC programmer and did it my self. As far as i know my code is a very small leak emmissions code.If it becomes a bigger problem then i will take it somewhere where they will guarantee they will fix it.

yea, the gas cap thing seems like it's always been an issue....we always told people to make sure they turn it and hear at least 3 clicks...i always go more then that....but yeah get a SC and you wont be making those trips to the dealer anymore
