Default Lifer Warranty

Well, I got a little pissed when my dealership owner sent me a personal letter notifying me I'll get a factory satisfaction card soon and that it would mean a great deal to him if I sent it back acknowledging my satisfaction, and I replied to him I'm still pissed off about buying an 07 and not being grandfathered into the lifetime warranty. Whats the warranty cost the searlership anyway? Nothing if it isn't used, nothing but appeasement to the customer, and this customer bought many a vehicle from him and plans at least three more in the next three years for my company. So I basically laid it out that my future with them depends on his response, and this may seem petty to some of you but it's more about principal to me. Sure I can buy it, but it's bad business as far as I'm concerned. Just can't let it go.

I would do the same thing and if he does not handle your needs the way you want, there are other dealers out there that will.

The way I see it, the company was sold. The new owners came up with a way to increase sales, ie: Lifetime Powertrain Warranty. Put yourself in their shoes. Your looking for a business oportunity, you see a company that's not doing real well up for sale at a good price and figure you can make a go of it. You buy it, come up with some aggressive sales tools to help turn it around. Now, every shmuck who has had dealings with the old owners start coming to you in droves wanting you to warranty, or better yet, extend their deals for life, at your expense! I'm sure you'd do it, and I believe Elvis is still alive, selling t-shirts in Atlantic City.
You people need to get over it. The deal must have been acceptable to you when you made it, otherwise, you would not have made the purchase when you did.
Everybody faces the "should I buy it now? will the deal be better next month?" issues.
I sold a house I lived in for 3 years a few years back. Did OK, sold it for about $47k more than I paid for it. Then about a year later, BAM, housing market goes crazy in FL. My old neighbors across the street sell their house, at almost 800 sq. ft. less and on half the acreage, for almost $100k more than I got for mine.
I guess if your philosophy on this makes sense, I can go back to the people who bought my house and make them give me another $150,000. Right?

So why is it that you aren't in on the warranty? Did you buy it before the start of the program?

HammerZ71 is 100% right. Plus it has absolutely nothing to do with the dealership!!!!! I know it's not what to want to hear.

I try to stay out of these discussions but..... Dealers found out about the lifetime warranty 3 days before it was introduced to the public. If I understand this right, you are going to give the dealer a bad report because of something thatDodge did, boy that seems so fair...So you expect the dealer to give you a lifetime warranty now. The warranty can be purchased for $750.00 It seems that you were happy with the deal you got at the time, now because there is a better warranty, you want to be angry at the dealership. The dealership doesn't warranty the truck, Dodge does....So you are going to soil the dealers name because of something that was out of his control, well... that seems fair. So if the dealer doesn't meet your demands and give yousomething that you didn't qualify for, you are going to givethem a bad report and not buy from them.... well that seems fair too.....And one last thing, If you are going to call them a STEALERSHIP, atleast learn how to spell it..........

i have to agree with the majority here. last year we bought a n ew commander in march. about 2 months later they offered employee pricing. should i have went back to the dealer and demanded about $5000 back? they'd think i'm crazy and i'd agree if i expected them to.
different owners, different rules. sorry.

ARGH! I hate conformity and hate sticking up for the dealership even morebut I have to agree. Allthough it would **** me off as well. But probably just out of selfishness. The other aspect is this: OK you get the warranty, now all the '06 guys are pissed, then the '05's. You see where I'm going with this? I know its not what you wanted to hear but at least you CAN still buy it. Everyone else is screwed! I hope they keep it until 2010 when the 6.1 Hemi(I wish!) comes out.

You know, Hammer, at first I was backing this dude. But you got me looking at it from the sellers or companies point. I didn't think of it that way. If I bought abusiness and somebody came up to me and said you gotta fix my crap for free, I would kick their skanky butt out the door. So, I'm thinkingyou are rightious. If you know the deal when you buy yours and you ar ok with it and sign on the dotted line, that's the deal.

If you buy a car and a month later they give a $4000 rebate, do you go back to the dealer and demand the rebate? If you bought a '05 Hemi without MDS, then the '06 comes out with MDS, do you go cry to the dealer because you want MDS?
Yup, I think these bozos are just a bunch of crybabies.

Thanks for your opinions. Hawkdriver, youare right to call it selfish,I agree, but when negotiating the sale of my truck, the stickler with the salesman and the owner was the 3/36000 and I wasn't comfortable with it, but yeah, when they both assuredme the engine drive train and tranny will "probably last you for lifetime", maybe I'm reading into that a little more, likethey kind of had a bead on some new warranty coming out? You say three days, Service/Parts,I wondering if it wasn't a lot longer than that.Hey, regardless, I'm the one who signed, so a deals a deal, it's over, I'm just having fun letting off some steam.
Parts/Service...I wouldn't soil the dealerships rep just because I'm a little pissed that I bought an 07 in 2007 and I apparently bought it a month or so too late. I signed on the dotted line and acccepted the deal for what it was, and I love my truck and the service I get from the dealership. I think if it were any other offer, like offering an additional 5K back, I wouldn't even be thinking twice about this crap because I know deals happen all the time. However, when you drop the coin we spend on our trucks and then they come out and say hey, 07's from this month on are covered for Life, itsort of makes you think WTF anda warranty like that makes it nothing like any other offer they've made before, nothing likea typical offer, and by the way, the d and s key are right next to each other on the keyboard and it was an innocent typo, so downshift, it wasn't an attack on the dealership. I'm a lover not a fighter, but sinceI type with my nose, I must have sneezed there, so relax, it wasn't an attack on teh sealership, or the parts/service deparrtment. God bLess me. ANother sneeze.

PS: HammerZ71 and Chaz Fish: You ain't gonna believe this, but I was down Atlantic City last week, bought a T-Shirt off a dude that looked exactly like the King, Elvis. He gave me a deal, a lifetime warrant on the shirt and when I walked away, he pointed at me, both knees bent, and bowed his headas heshouted "Hey you Schmuck Bozo Crybaby...thank you...thank you very much!" And in regards to the warranty, Service/Parts, Yeah, if I owned the company, and if you bought an 07 during 2007, I'd grandfather you in just because I'm a nice guy and I'd be looking for your business down the road.

Atleast learn how to spell it?.......... Dude...Lmao! at least : replace or continue?

PSS: I believe it'scool to agree to disagree, and if you're willing to dish it out and can take it back without getting all puffed up, I see it as nothing personal, just a little fun amongst some good ole boys who happen to beDodge fans and drivenice trucks. There is always a limit and a threshold not to be surpassed. Not looking to brawl everytime I come here, but I do want opinions when I post something and if everyone agreed with each other, this place wouldn't be as cool as it is. No disrespect to anyone...Service, Hummer, Chaz or anyone else I subliminally indignified withoutthem knowing about it. Here's a beer on me.Post on!
