Good deal on Transmission fluid change???
Went to the stealership this morning to get my rear end fluid changed, $165!. Anyways while I was there I asked how much for a FULL tranny flush - both filters, tranny and converter flushed. They gave me a price of $300.
So I found this little local tranny place called Aatco Transmission. So I stopped in and got a price of $115, they dont flush the tranny they drop the pan and replace both filters and drain the cooler lines to get the fluid out of the converter. She said the owner wont allow a flush machine in there, he said it would break seals etc. and I have heard the same thing about flushes. So then I asked if I suuply my own fluid would they use that and she said yes. She also suggested that they can use synthetic. I asked what kind they use and she said Amsoil, said it would be $99 more. I almost dropped to the floor when she said that because I know 14-15 quarts of Amsoil is $150. Thoughts???
I have an appointment Thurs. morning and I will let you all know how it goes. Looks like they only have 2 locations in Columbus.

They buy the oil wholesale, not retail. Their price is cheat but I don't think they are trying to hose you. If you're not convinced, watch them add oil into your tranny and make sure it's synthetic oil from unopened containers.
The place I have been having my oil changed has not stiffed me in the past 10 years, or at least I never caught them, so I don't think they are going to start now.

I paid $189 + tax for my trans fluid change at my dealership. It included both filters, laborand flushing to empty/clean outthe torque converter.
As for the "Flushing" damaging seals, I find that comment rather humerous. If operated properly, the machine puts no more strain on transmission seals then the transmission itself, during normall running conditions.
Not to mention, unhooking lines isn't going to drain the torque converter, unless the truck is running. No pump....no line psi.
I'd be leary about the Aatco gig, for the simple fact of what was stated, regarding buying tranfluid in bulk. If they try to save a few bucks and use Dextron in your trans, claiming it's synthetic, you'll have issues later. If it's a compatable synthetic, then ask to see the drum, or container lable that it came out of. If they refuse, then walk.
I'm lucky enough to have a great dealership to deal with. I have no issues with trusting them, and their service manager has common friends with myself, and you couldn't find a nicer, more honest guy.
Good luck with your decision.

Amsoil is arguably the best fluid you can put in...it keeps the tranny cool...yea you were ripped at the dealer... i switched my oil, tranny fluid and diff fluids to Amsoil....and yes, Amsoil is expensive...
