Question about batteries?
optimas are sold at costco, and several other retail locations.
sears has a tendancy to rake people over the coals for hard earned cash.
I do not know hwere ya live. here in Arizona, if your battery is 5 or more years old, then its on its last leg.
no matter where ya live, batteries may be bad right off the rack. now most batteries are made in only 2 or so factories. the napas, wal marts, autozone, checkers, international, etc.
optimas are gel cells with no maintenance.
if youre gonna buy a battery, look at the warranty first.
my cummins had 1 optima and it runs fine.
good luck!

I personally don't like SEARS and would not give them $199 for a battery no matter what they call it. Interesting to call a battery "platinum" while there certainly wouldn't be any platinum inside it. I saw a show last week on Discovery called "how it's made" and they showed a battery factory. I bet this is one of those items where there are only a handful of companies making them but any retailer can have them labelled whatever they want.
I purchased a yellow top Optima at Advance Auto Parts for about $180, the red top was closer to $150, I thought that was alot for a battery but I wanted an Optima in the truck. The difference between the two was cold cranking amps but I don't remember the exact numbers. Yes, new batteries can go bad, the Optima in my boat wouldn't hold a charge and Advance replaced it a year later no questions asked, they didn't even check the computer, the guy told me "I remember you buying it". They get my business for that fact alone.

You know, i kind of get the impression that they got rid of the Optima battery, because they have the Platinum Die Hard in stock now.
Years ago, they only had the Die Hard Gold, Silver, and regular.....with Die Hard Gold costing $100.00.
Now they sell the Platinum which cost $199.00, and got rid of the Optima which cost $190.00.
According to the sales guy, the Optima battery wasn't selling, and when it did sell, people brought it back to the store with complaints.
Who knows, maybe he was giving me a line, so i could buy the Platinum.
