Default Snow Plowing w/08 Ram 1500 Hemi

Hi Folks,
I did some searching on the topic snow plowing with the 1500 and the majority of the advise given is all negative feedback on not to do it from Member's on this Forum. This is my situation and I am looking for advise Pro's & Con's. The Dealer I purchased the truck from will honor the life time warranty on my new Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab Hemi if I add a snow plow package, The Snow Plow that I am planning to install is a 7-1/2' light duty snow plow basically for doing driveways and small parking lots and that is all I plan on plowing. The plow will not hang off the front of the truck for weeks on end. It will only be on the truck to plow and off it comes when not being used. The plow package is a Curtis Hitch & Run System, 7-1/2' light duty, which weight's in at 690 lbs. and it is what is recommended by the manufacturer "Curtis" for my particular Dodge 1500. Check Link Below.

The installer/authorized dealercalled theManufacturer about my concerns on upgrading the front suspension "Timbren's" to a taller "Timbren" but the manufacturer told them that no upgrade is needed on the new 2008 Ram 1500 only 2007 and earlier model's. Does anyone know for certain what the difference are between the 2008 & earlier models when it comes to the front suspension? They are telling me that the 08 1500 has the heavy duty front end.

For the Record the Owner's Manuel does say not to install a snow plow on the 1500, but I called the dealer on the printed material and they told me Dodge puts that in there to protect them. The Owner Manuel states problems could accure with air bag deployment and or electrical issue's from the added load of powering a plow. Any input and or experience on this is greatly apprecited. Thank-you.

Ed

When I lived in CT, I spent many winters plowing snow with a half ton pickup with no problems. You don’t need the biggest most powerful truck on the market. If your dealer is saying no problem with the warranty package and you are having the snow plow package installed professionally, then I see no problem. Just don’t go nuts trying to push through three feet of snow for twenty hours straight. Red

I would definantly beef up the front suspension, eveb though they are saying you don't need to. I had a friend that had a Dakota with a plow. He never had any problems.

I don't see any issues why a Dodge 1/2 ton wouldn't be able, I see a lot of 1/2 ton GMC's with snow plows in my neck of the woods, (north eastern) and they don't have any issue's. Snow removal is there living, that's there winter pay. So if a week GMC 1500 could do it, why wouldn't the beast be able to!!!! (With some weigth in the bed, you shouldn't have any problems.

Yes, you can plow, but, your going to kill, the front Cv joints, extra stress on the rack and pion, the front axels on the 1500 are weaker than the 2500, you will need a heavy duty oil and trans cooler as well as the cooling system
