New Shock Question
I ordered 4 new shocks, stock rear and new fronts for the 2 inch leveling I am going to do, RS5000's. I haven't done the leveling yet, will as soon as I take truck to dealer for stupid lamp out issue, but would it be horrible to have the longer fronts shocks installed before I do the leveling? I don't off road or anything like that, and it would only be a day or so before I do the lift/level. Reason I ask, I am paying to have the rears installed for $80 along with an Undercover, and they told me they could do the fronts in the same hour for no extra charge. But if I bring it back later it is another $80. I was going to do them myslef, but read the rears were difficult, and the shop says the fronts are even harder.

i'm guessing w/ a 2" level in the front, the shocks should be okay as long as the front suspension doesn't get fully compressed until it's leveled.
the rear shocks are very simple...2 bolts each. i haven't done my fronts yet either...still debating on the level or not, but i doubt it takes anything/anyone special to do it. if it were me, i'd do it myself...but if you don't want the hassle, go ahead and have them do all 4. it's your truck and your money though...whatever you're comfortable with.

Mite as well let them put the leveling kit springs or spacers what ever the way you want to go this will be the hardest part they have to pull the front shocks off anyways to do the lift so the front shock change should be included in the price of the lift.
The shocks and Lift are not all that hard to do but if you do the lift kit YOU SELF there a whole lot of stored energy in those coil springs BE VERY CARFUL those can send you to the hospital make sure you remove all the preload before you take them out and reinstalling them is harder you trying to put 10 lbs in a 5lbs contaner now more per load, you trying to put a spring thats now 2 + inchs longer back in thesame spot.

Just out of curiosity, why did you choose Rancho's 5000 as opposed to any other brand? Was it cost? I ask because, i presently need new shocks, and have a set of Monroe's Reflex on order. But before i ordered the Reflex, the shop owner offered to sell me the Rancho's.
I put Ranchos on my old Dakota... all 4 did in my mother in laws driveway....I got them for price and I read a lot of good reviews about them.. and I could'nt had been happier after they were in....
A lot of it had to do with cost, others at the same price didn't include a boot. I am not going to be off roading, just needed the 0-4"shocks since I am going to crank the TB, and the Rancho RS5000's are a good shock. Others that have done the TB and have them are very satisfied. I also like the white shock with the red boot that all but matches my truck.
