Collapsed lifters
I just had my truck in because of a loud ticking noise coming from the engine ('03 4.7). Apparently the lifters on cylinders 1 and 2 had collapsed. Thankfully I still have 2000 miles left on my warranty.
What I'm looking for what would cause them to collapse. Especially considering it's the first cylinder on either bank. Aside from my Dad who's put maybe 1000 miles on it, I'm the only one who drives the truck and it's seen 3500+ RPMs maybe 10 times in it's life.
Can anyone give me any other suggestions as to what would cause it? I'm trying to figure out if it is actually something I did, or I do.
Thanks.

Hmm...weird. I'd guess maybe a faulty lifter but two of them? Maybe they aren't getting oiled up because of a clog or something ? Would be interesting to hear what the dealership says...
Dealership didn't have anything useful to say. The mechanic says it's from over revving the engine. I'm wondering if there's a problem with the oil system and it's not getting oil to the front of the engine. It is the first cylinder on each bank that went. I don't know if I'd consider that a coincidence. The rocker arm on cylinder 1 was out of place as well. I wonder what's up with that.
But I had to bring her back in today. She's still got that same loud tick, but now she's shaking like a leaf and stalling out. It's showing P0300 which I believe is multiple cylinder misfire. I'm guessing that something wasn't done quite right or torqued right when they did the work yesterday. It drove home a little rough, but I figured it just needed a little wear in time.
Right now part of me is hoping they'll open it up, say it's screwed, and throw in an '08 4.7! I know, I know, it's not going to happen. But I can hope!

We had an 01' Durango with the 4.7L that the rocker for the lifters actually came off. Tore the engine apart to send out just to find the rocker laying on it's side in the valve tray. There was nothing else wrong with the engine, I was like 600 miles out of warranty and had to pay for it myself. Long story why I fixed it the way I did. The fault that came up at first was the #1 cylinder was missing or something.
