Dodge Ram Heavy Duty weight discrepancy
Hi I own a Dodge Ram Dually 3500 Heavy Duty, which I imported from the States about 13 months ago. Before I MOT'd it I SVA'd it at my local VOSA station. They informed me that it would require a group 7 MOT, which is for vehicles upto 3500Kg. It has just gone through its second MOT. During the brake test, the axle weights were displayed. When added together it gave the total weight of the vehicle which was empty at the time as just under 4000Kg, 500Kg above its maximum GVW. Who is responsible should I be stopped and weighed? After all VOSA have classified it in a catagory that it is impossible to achieve weight wise, on the other hand I as the driver am responsible for maintaining the GVW below its maximum value. I am not on my own here, everybody else who drives a Heavy Duty Ram is in the same predicament. Any comments would be appreciated.
I can't speak for your state, but as a rule of thumb if your not registerd as a commerical Vehicle, or hauling/towing under your tow ratting, than you don't have to pull into wheigh staions, How manny 5th wheals, convertd grey hound bues, ect do you see being chased by the truck cops.
If your truck is used for commerical purposes, ie towing a bob cat, ect, than I suspect you have to adress thease issues.
I;m asuming your in the US. Not in Canada, each province in Canada has thier own stupid rules that are not uniform threw out Canada.
I get stopped alot by the calgary truck cops, as I do work construction and tow cribbing forms with my 06 2500 hemi..
