Default Frame bolt size

Ok, here's my dilemma. I orderd a set of nerf bars of the internet, I just wanted something decent looking on my truck that wouldn't break the bank. Well these were supposedly designed to fit my truck, which they match up right at the frame/body bolts. Well anyway, I started the install, the nerf bars came with 2 120mm bolts that were supposed to substitute the factory bolts. Well, when I put them through the frame into the body, I can turn them about a thread and a half and the it seems like I'm stripping the threads on something, they don't seem to match up. I took the factory frame bolt and the new bolt I got to lowes, and founda nut that fit both of them, it appears they are the same size but I'm scared to put this new bolt up in the frame and strip something out. The factory bolt goes up in, I can turn it by hand about 2 turns and then I have to use a wrench but theres never a lot of pressure on the wrench until it's tight.

Any ideas on what I could try?

See if the threads on the bolts match up with the stock threads. Put the bolts along side each other and put the threads into the grooves of each other. If they fit it's the same thread count. If they do not then they are a different thread count. Now if they were the same you can use a pair of calipers to see if they are the same diameter as the stock ones. If this is the case then they might have a thread buggered up and this is causing the issue. You can either force the bolt in and it will straighten itself out or use a thread file and fix the buggered area. Hope thishelps.

Default RE: Frame bolt size

ok well I'll give it a shot tomorrow, the bolts that were supplied with the nerf bars are m12 x 1.75's so I guess they'll work, they match the threads on the factory bolt when placing them side by side. The problem is the threads look fine, and I tried more than one of the bolts, they all seem to hang. I would just use the factory ones, but the intructions on the nerf bars says it's not reccommended. Doesn't give a reason, just saysnot to use them, anybody else use the factory bolts with your nerf bars???

Another question, if anyone knows, anyidea what the Torq setting would be for the particular bolt in question?

Thanks for all your help!
