Default 2008 1500 Mega Cab - Rim Question

Hello - I am new to the forum and placed an order for a 2008 1500 LaramieMC 4x4last week. My company buys quite a few trucks every year and Dodge gives us a great deal through their fleet program.

We also just picked up a 2007 1500 QC 4x4 that has the 20 inch wheels on it. The dealer asked if I wanted to put those on my MC wen it comes in our keep the stock wheels on it.

Anyone have any suggestions? Do the larger wheels ride differently? Also - With 20 inch wheels - what is the maximum tire size I could run without modifying the suspension?

Thanks

I don't have a MegaCab, so i don't know too much about them..But if you check this forum, you'll see that MegaMegaman has a MC which he recently did some changes to. You might want to PM him, maybe he can offer some input....Hope this helps.

I would say yes that the 20's would ride differently becuase it will have a smaller sidewall whick means less bouce to the tire, this would make it ride stiffer. I made the choice before on my other truck to either have the look or the ride, I chose the look and went with the 20's.

I am not sure about the max sie you can go, but you might want to stick the stock 17's for now. First, if you buy the rims through the dealer, they are going to be super expensive as the MC needs the HD 8 lug rims and they get rpicey through the dealer or after market. Also if you plan on doing any off roading, most will add that putting a larger tire on the 17's will do better as you will have more rubber between you and the obstacles. Last but not least, because of the weight of the truck, the ride will be a little rougher with the larger rims. There are several threads here though that you can do a search for as far as the largest tire you can put on a 20 or 17 inch rim. It is gonna come down to more what you like as far as the ride goes.

either way i really doubt your going to be totally shocked on the differences in the ride. I don't think most people will even notice the difference.
