Anyone pull RV's or fitfth wheels.
Really, really considering a diesel for next year cause i will be pulling a fifth wheel around a lot with my new job.
but before i did, i was gonna take a look at ultralights, and 1/2 ton towable trailers, jsut curious if anyone here pulls one, what brand/size. any mods they had to do to thier pickup to pull them, how do they handle etc.
i just bought my truck a year and a half ago, i would like to keep it a little longer.

I pull a keystone Nrg 23ft but its really a 25ft box and 27ft tongue to rear. My trucks stock. Its got the power to pull the thing but not enough to feel good about it. The main thing is that it tows it good. It doesnt sway in the wind or when a truck passes. If youre not getting a 5th wheel then you need the sway link and distribution bars. trust me if you can a diesal will be way better.
I am hopefully, i still have an interview. Going on the road doing travelling construction. I will need the trailer to live in. I dont have to have it right away. so i could save and trade mine off for hte diesel. I know i will need a fairly large rv to live in comfortably weeks at a time.
just seeing what peoples opinions/experiences are.
hopefully in july/august i can get a cummins. as with all 1/2 tons i fear stopping, more than pulling

Well I tow a 29'6 keystone travel trailer. 32'11 from tounge to end weight is 6800 dry i tow it wiith a half ton qc 4.7 my sig will show you my mods. Itg pulls it very well. I live in the south so for the main part its flat ground. First paret of oct. towed it to talladega for the race and once i got into the hills, I got a lot of change in speed. If you are going to be towing alot it hilly couintry I would def. go with a diesel.
hope this helped

i live in the NW, i will be travelling all over WA,OR,ID, and NorCal. So..hills is an understatment. are you guys happy with your keystone's? they make them near me, and they seem like nice units. That is my main consideration right now
I tow our 308s 30 ft. Holiday Rambler..dry wt. 5200 lbs. with our 2007 Hemi Quad cab 4X4with an Equalizer hitch.. pulls fine.. However If your pulling anything over 7,000 Lbs. I would go diesel... Doug

The keystone Nrg is a toyhauler but it is the best bang for the buck. Its got everything in it like dual electricbunks a front spleeper and alot of others. the trailers have electric brakes so you need a brake controller. believe me you can set the brakes so it can stop pretty good no matter wut ur towing vehicles is.
I pull a 2004 Starcraft Travelstar 21SSO hybrid. Hard to explain if you dont know what a hybrid trailer is. Basically its a conventional hard sided trailer except the beds fold down from the ends and are tent covered. It's not a popup. Ours has a large slide out with a sleeper sofa and dinnette on it. Very roomy! It's 24' folded and 27' opened up. Weighs 3800lbs dry, 5,000 loaded.
We pull this with a 2004 Hemi 4x4 Durango. Pulls very well but if in mountainous terrian as I am I put the Hemi's limit at about 6,000lbs loaded. Maybe a bit less with a Ram but I'm not sure how much more the Ram weighs over the Durango.

I pull a 27 foot trailer and I have an 07 with the hemi it is about 6500 loaded ( I dont pack much ). It holds the weight just fine but you can sure tell its back there !! Have not done any really big hills yet but the little hills i have done sure hold ya back ! If you take it easy and push the tow button up the hills it really does help ya get there
If you plan on traveling around the country side i would go for the diesel but if you just plan on droppingit and living in it the hemi will do it !
