Reliability of 4.7 vs HEMI
I just began my search for my very first Dodge. I was wondeirng if there was any difference in the reliability of the 4.7 motor vs. the 5.7 Hemi motor. This may be a stupid question and there may already be post about this, but I can't find it.
Any help is great thanks, Jake.

My personal opinion, if you take care, and do all schelduled maintenance, either engine will give you years and thousands of miles of service, but if not, you have the unlimited powertrain warranty on the new trucks so you'll always have a little peace of mind...
well i have a 4.7 5spd, its an ok motor but i think it has to work more to move the truck, i get around 10 mpg and my buddy has the same one with the 5.7 getting around 14, but my 5spd kept up with a 5.7 auto, so the speed is around the same
The 4.7 has been around for while and I have never heard of any "common" serious problems with them. It's the same for the 5.7 I havent heard any real problems with it either. But if I could do it all over again and was choosing the between the gas engines I would definatly choose the Hemi. More power, better or equal gas mileage, and its a HEMI.
I have both, my '04 Hemi has had absolutely no hint of a problem in 38,000 miles.
My '02 High Output 4.7 has not had any problems either in 67 miles.
I bought it yesterday to replace my little 4 banger (way too small) as my daily driver.
It does have 61,000 miles on it, but I have no idea if anything was ever done to it...

As far as the Ram is concerned... I would stick with the 5.7. We had a 4.7 4x4 1500 and a 5.7 4x4 2500 for shop trucks, and now I personally have a 5.7 4x4 1500... The 4.7 was not that great in the Ram.
Now, in the other vehicles it is GREAT.

As everyone is saying, 4.7 isnt a bad engine. But i personally think the 5.7 is a better overall engine. Not to mention you get some cool points for being able to say you have a true HEMI.
