I would love to have a shifter handle like the old Hurst brushed aluminum handles. How are the factory ones held on? Splines? Interference fit? I think I may have to go custom, as Google turned up nothing, but I would like to do something cool with the shift ****. Anyone have any ideas?

 

The **** is threaded on, and held tight with a jam nut. To get to it, the shift pattern button has to be removed, a small screwdriver and care will do it. The threads are metric.

 

You can get the brushed Hurst Shifter at Advance Auto, there is nut insert that matches up for the Dodge shifer. I got one for mine and I like it.

Is the threaded metric adaptor part of the package, or do you have to buy that seperate?

 

It comes with the package. If my memory serves me it should be the silver nut.

Found this shift **** on ebay gently used for about $40 shipped. I think it retails for about $70. It looks great and actually its easier to shift into 4WD.
