Default Shocking experience

OK, does anyone else's Ram give them a huge shock when they go to get out after driving? Here in VA it has started getting colder, and after driving for a bit, I shut off the truck, open the door, and when I go to touch the door to shut it, POW! This morning it was enough to make me drop my cell phone!! Is this normal? Is there any way to ground the truck or get this to stop? The only additional wiring I have done is to run a 12v plug in to the hole in my center console. I spliced it in to the 12v on the bottom of the dash. It really only does this in the winter, and I know that it is drier and there is more static around in winter. Any suggestions?????? Thanks for any help anyone can give.

you could put something like static guard on the seats. I know i have been getting shocked but not bad. my mom handles fabric everyday and told me that the seats in our truck is known to make static with just a little rubbing. wouldn't hurt to be a try.

Yea I get shocked! And its always in the winter. I did not get shocked one time all summer but last winter when I got out of my truck everytime and shut the door I didnt use my hand, I used my leg with the blue jean barrier lol. It hasnt been cold enough yet here in Texas this November but I expect to start getting shocked again very soon.

You know, its funny that you started this. When I first got my ram I was getting shocked all the time when I got out of it and shut the door. But now I havent been and really havent gave it much thought. Now since I wrote this Im gonna get it bad.

Yea it's just static electricity the drier air and cooler temps make it happen. I don't have this with my Ram because of the leather seats, but my wife's van with cloth seats will painfully shock you. I don't know how to stop it though.

I get zapped all the time, mostly in the winter though. And it's not like I'm builing a static charge when getting in and out of the truck. I've got leather seats! I just chalked it up to my electrifying personality. Thanks for bursting my bubble[sm=smiley17.gif]

This has been a problem that has been getting some news coverage the last couple of years. People are getting out of their cars, rubbing their butts across the cloth seats, generating static charge and then reaching for the gas pump. I don't know if any of you have seen videos of it but if the charge is discharged while filling the car the fumes can ignite. Pretty wild to see the fumes ignite in mid air. Some people have been burned bad because of it. It is recommended to touch the outside of your car before grabbing the pump.

Nothing you can do really except grab hold of something metal (like thethe exposed jambor back of door)BFORE you get out. hold on untill you touch the gound and gound yourself. As long as your butt's off da seat ya'll souldn't get shocked. As for the fuel pumps, as a firefighter that is very, very ture, it onlt happens when fueling though. If the nozzle is in the pump you're okay, and if you must escape the cold of winter in your cab when fueling just do the above and all will be good.

P.S. Diesels need not worry, a saprk won't set your fuel off.
