I agree, about the 80 buck thing, actually had the pump cut me off when filling my tank the other day because I hit 75 dollars. Unfortunately, open the oil reserves in the states and watch the public become split in outrage over that! I like the alternative fuel idea, but I also like the muscle aspect of the Hemi I wanted a diesel when I got out here (not that it costs less at the pump) but the Cummins aspect adds like 5-7 grand. I know Mecedes and Audi are doing some awesome things with diesel and raw horse power (Audi won the 24 hour Le Mans this year in a diesel powered car), but once again cost out the door is still higher than gas. The biggest issue of the cost I believe is keeping emissions under control.

Oh and Brother Rob, That's only Exxon.
Didn't mean to **** you off. Not my intent. That's why politics should stay in another forum...this one's about trucks. No matter what the reason, we are stuck with HIGH gas prices. There's nothing I can do,except try and squeeze a little more MPG out of my Hemi through mods and such. Anyway, no blood-no foul...right? Peace.
Pissed off?? Me?? Naw, no way....We had this same discussion, last year around this time.... so it's no problem....i like to hear other view points on why prices are the way they are......you read some interesting things....
But i think someone should tell SWOS Chief, that no one within the upper echelon of the military will question his loyalty, if he decided to call a spade a spade......Kind of reminds me of that story about the king who was made clothing, that was supposedly made out of invisible thread.......when actually, he was walking around naked. No one would tell him other wise, because he was the king.....
I am not pissed, moreso entertained. As for letting the "upper echlon" know, lol, I believe your signature staes you are in the military, have you let them know? Better yet, because you are so pointedly making your point to a bunch of civilians I can only gues that you also already made it to the "upper echlon", guess what, things haven't changed. So either you are preaching a line of BS you don't follow or you know as well, if not better than I do that there are some things it does absolutely no good to sit back and whine about. If you would like to further discuss this please PM me, because I am done airing dirty laundry on here, otherwise, be safe and thank you for serving your country.

Scott
Chuckle..........You know SWOS Chief, another Chuckle.....BTDT........Been there done that, and have a couple of DD-214's to show for it.....Funny thing though, another chuckle, when you start watching the news more, and reading the paper even more so, you start to read in between the lines....Look, there's no doubt that this is the greatest country in the world, but i would be a complete moron if i believed everything the government told me...

Thats what makes this Country so great is we all have the right to our own opinion. I have spent a total of 27 months in Iraq and I'll probably vote Democrat next year, but Im not sure if they could help these high gas prices. 2.99 here in the great state of Texas.

barrels of oil reach record highs every other day, oil companies are reporting record profits, and countries that sell oil (including south american countries) have booming construction because of all this over the top revenue...

all around the world, everyone knows that DOLLARS MAKE SENSE!

Instead of alternative fuels and stuff, why not use air?

We have air power tools and I realize the sound would be different but I wouldnt have to stop every 300 miles or so and pay $80 to fill up with gas. Only worry would be is running out of air.

Someone go invest in a big air compressor and somehow make it work lol
What would an air powered truck sound like I wonder?

The present price of gasoline and crude oil is not justified by production cost,
it is being driven by speculators at Hedge Funds.

The most expensive oil produced in the world right now is coming from the Canadian tar sands or Gulf of Mexico floating deep water platforms...and that oil only costs about $30 per barrel....compared to the present market price for crude oil of more than $90 per 42 gallon barrel.

The bad news is that it is going to get worse before its gets better.

If President Bush decides to 'do his duty' and become even less popular
and take care of the Iranian atomic bomb plants
before the next president is elected
...or the Israeli airforce starts a huge Middle East war by taking out the atomic bomb plants themselves,
then oil and gasoline prices are going to get MUCH worse for a period of several years.

If you are willing to take extreme risks with money
you could make enough profit by guessing right
about when prices will change by buying oil price options
that the price of gasoline won't matter to you.

If you don't want to do this
you can build up your knowledge of the basics
of how to make pickups get better MPG
by tackling a little of this very long read on the subject:

https://dodgeforum.com/m_447500/tm.htm

or you can purchase a vehicle that already uses these same
principles of
less weight,
sleeker aero,
lower tire rolling resistance,
better match of drivetrain gearing to engine efficiency

Everyone has two toolkits:
one box for metal tools
and one cavity between the ears for mental tools.

It is time to build up and improve both types of toolkits
or it will cost you plenty of $

Do you ever wonder if the gasoline that you buy is really the Octane that they say it is? I used to work for an Oil refiner, and when I wasn't there I know that they shipped off test gasoline to the stations. Does your state have state run octane testing facility's ? Do you trust the oil companies for the real number at the pumps? At the prices that we are paying for gasoline ,are we getting what we are paying for?

Don't laugh. There is a vehicle either currently or soon to be test marketed in India (I think). It uses high pressure air (similar to SCUBA pressures) to power an engine similar to the one in the popular Air Hogs toy airplanes that kids play with. When parked a small gas or diesel engine runs the compressor-typeengine in reverse to repressurize the tank. Range before repressurizationis only limited by the size and number of air tanks, but is very limited compared to any conventional drive system. The last link references the agreement with Tata Motors of India.
