BHRAM, really any name brand that is a true CAI isa goodimprovement over stock. I have the K&N but mainly because I got a deal on it at the time, plus I've been using their drop-in filters with good results for years. Whatever way you go, I think it's important to go with one that replaces everything from the throttle body out. The stock air box and especially that big plastic baffle over the throttle body are quite restrictive. The newer TrueFlow XDi, the AEM Brute Force and K&N would be just a couple of good choices.
An important thing to remember is that performance increases as a direct result of increased intake AND exhaust flow. A CAI is really a waste without at least a good cat back exhaust system.Headers would also compliment the system nicely.

there would be a lot of confusion and mis-information
if the dashboard of pickups didn't have
gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, fuel tank level, tachometer, etc.
Most of the mis-information about cold air intakes comes because
there is not an easy way for the owner to see his MAP and IAT sensor reading.
Most of this would go away if the dashboard had a gauge for
air filter restriction...which is common on 18 wheel trucks.
In the pdf file from Donaldson filters below
scroll down three quarters
and look at the guage for the dash labeled
"Service Gauge for Instrument Panel"

If the Ram dashboard came with a guage like that
most cold air intakes would be returned for refunds
especially after owners noticed the new washable filter
clogging up at a faster rate than their paper filter did.

Isn't adding another valuable gauge to the dashboard a good mod?
Cummins Ram owners seem to take delight in
Transmisson temperature,
EGT and
Lift pump pressure gauge additions,
so shouldn't gasoline Ram owners get in on the fun?

True Flow has a video actually saying exactly what you just did, showing how a K&N filter will clog a little faster than the paper filters, b/c there is only so much room the guaze can store the dirt, they were showing off how their filters didn't do that. But they also showed just how much crap can get through a paper filter, and it was a horrifying video if you have a stock paper filter in your truck. I want to get to 200,000 miles on my truck, and I believe an aftermarket filter would be a benefit to my engine's long term care, and help me get to that goal.

I'm seriously considering investing in a CAI for my '02 4.7L 1500. I have some questions though.
1) On TrueFlow's website, the XDI is offered for '05-'07 4.7L. Is there a difference between my engine and that of the years listed?
2) K&N offers the FIPK and 77 for my truck. What is the difference? How much money am I looking at for either one of these?
3) Will it make any difference in sound with my single chamber muffler?

Not too much differerence, just programing mostly. The TB size is still the same on both. I belive the FIPK repaces your entire intake system, it deletes the stock air box and that dam baffle box attatched to the TB. Either way, I'd check out the Air Ram website and look at the power scoop he has there, it'll help get more air to your cooler ouside air coming in thru the grill to your CAI. Again I'm looking at his pictures and seeing if I an't use my HVAC job to try and make my own, If I can't I'll just have to cough up the doe and buy one. Thats a suggestion that everyone should look into I think. Maybe evin our resident genius Hank might want one.
