Please vote for your favorite tire... list a specific tire and why.... also keep in mind
The stock size is 265/70 r 17
The biggest you can fit is a 285/70/r17 or a 33" tire with a leveling kit you can fit a 315/70/r17 or a 35" tire though not reccomended unless you have at least a 2500
Also gears are reccomended if you are a 35 or over get 4.56's 33's or under 4.10's
BTW: The smallest rim you can fit is a 17
bolt patterns: 1500 - is a 5 x 5.5
2500- is a 8x6.5

I selected other - I am running 305x70x17's Maxxis Bighorns - they are a little noisy on the road - but have an aggressivetread patter- do well in sand, mud, and rocks - they do a very agood job of self cleaning - they are cheaper than most other mud terrains out there and are just as tough - if not tougher and will last you 40K or si miles.
My second choice would be Cooper STT's - aggressive tread - not too loud - tough, great offroad - but quite a bit more exspensive.

I am runnig a 35x12.50x18 Pro Comp Xtreme all terrain. They have been on my truck for about 500 miles and they are the smoothest 35 inch tire i have ever had. The tread is 21/32nds deep and have a good lug on the sidewall only downfall is they are a little noisey @ highway speeds. They were $290.00 a piece but most pro comp tire retailers have buy 3 get one free. And if the retailer you are at doesnt have buy 3 get one free another one does it is usually like this year round i was told!

By the way there, Mr. TDMopar, a guy came to the golf course where I work today, had a nice '03 Dodge 1500 SC 4x4 Hemi, 6" Fabtech lift, very nice. I commented to him how nice his truck looked and he thanked me& asked me what I drove. I pointed to my '02 Grand Cherokee Overland and said "that V8 4x4 is my daily driver, my lifted '04 Dodge QC 4x4 Hemi is home in the driveway". To which he replied "well don't ever put Pro Comp X-Terrains on it, because those bald *** sob's have just 18k miles on them". They WERE bald as hell!!!
So much for your theory on the X Terrains wearing better than the older Pro Comp tires...
