I have a 2003 Dodge Ram 4x4 and over the past two weeks the rear end has began locking up when taking it out of 4 wheel drive. I have to put it into reverse and then it seems to be fine until I put it back into 4 wheel drive.

I have an appointment at the dealer on Friday, but just wanted input so I don't go into the dealer blind.

 

No answers, no takers, no nothing?

I figure it has to be the rear end gears, but I was also told that it could be the rear brake is freezing up, and several other things that I'm in doubt of.

Guess I'm heading to the dealer blind since you experts don't have a take on it.

 

sorry bro, I have no Idea what would cause a rear diff to lock up but only coming out of 4wd.It wont be a mechanical defect in the diff itself, or it would be doing it all the time. My best guess would be something in the transfer case not unlocking properly but that just a guess, good luck and keep us posted!
