noticed something odd
Ok, I have a 2005 Ram 1500 Reg Cab short bed. I have owned the truck since new and I have not noticed this until just recently. Looking closely at my truck I noticed that the gap between the cab and the bed is just a little bit wider on the drivers side than on the passenger side. Is this normal or a factory flaw in the truck? Anyone else notice this on their truck?
i haven't checked that, but originally i thought that my tailgate cables were different lengths. it turns out they were the same, but the gate/bed was tweaked a little....dealership's solution was to take off one cable and jump on tailgate to re-tweak it. i couldn't decide if that was some incredible 5star ingenuity, or just something i would try after 3 or 9 beers.

That would have to be a pretty big factory flaw in my book! The frame and boxes should be relatively square from the factory. An accident would cause the alignment to go awry. Did you buy the truck new? If not, you may be able to trace the vehicle history to see if it was involved in an accident. I realize that might be a useless suggestion if it was at this point but I guess I would want to know if it were my Ram. Might raise a few other issues with the body/mechanical to look for if it was involved in an accident.
Guys don't depend on your eyes for this. Remember, I have had this truck for a while and not noticed it. Measure the gaps using your fingers or a tape. On the drivers side of mine I can get two fingers side by side in the gap but it is snug. On the other side, I cannot get both of them into the gap. It is not a huge difference but it is there. It may be that some are off a bit and others are right on. Lets make a survey out of it and see. Thanks.
