Default tranny issue

Hey guys i posted this in the intrepid section and i havent gotten anything in a week so im wondering if you guys can help me. My father in law has 2002 intrepid and he's having an issue with the tranny. It sounds like if it was slipping but its not because if you pull over and turn it off and on then everything works fine for a bit. when hes accelerating the rpms rise but the gear does not change. Has anyone had something like this happen to them? I heard old or low fluid level can cause this but its not low and i dont think old fluid can do this but regardless its red. Please share any knowledge on the subject...Thank you

you could a have a problem with the torque converter, or even the pcm if it is an electronically controlled transmission. i am not to familiar with the intrepid tranny. If it were mine i would probably have to replace thepcm or valve bodyand see what happens the reason i would do this is because you said you can pull over turn off the car and turn it back on and it works fine for a little while sounds like the pcm going bad or the valves and or actuators in the valve body are bad.

Does the tranny have bands? They might need to be adjusted or be goin out. Does it happen with any individualgears or all the time? Just an idea maybe some1 with more transmission knowledge will chime in.
