Default Rear end leaking!!

Got a 03 ram 3500, DRW,Auto,58,000 miles, 4:10s and all stock. Just noticed my inner rear tire is soaked in gear oil. I just got the truck about 3 weeks ago and it was dry then. When i took the hub cap off i seen someone had been in the hub before at some point and time because there was orange silicon on the cap. Looked like some idiot did a messy job sealing it. But i just wanted to see if anyone has had problems with axel seals or is this a rare problem. Its just the passenger side , the other side is dry.. got me worried a little because i will be pulling with this truck soon for work and i cant have little stuff like this happen at the wrong time. Any input would be great..Thanks Allen.

Sorry my truck has 43,500 miles and no rear end leaks. Take care of it and do both sides to make sure it is right.

Be sure it is not the pinion seal. If the pinon seal is leaking the drive shaft will toss lube under the bed and onto the rear wheels, it an extreme case.

Pinion seal leakage is unfortunately fairly common in Dodge rear ends. More so on the 9.25" in the 1500s, but still common in the 2500/3500 rear ends as well. One of the nice features we get to deal with ever since Chrysler went to the AAM (aka: "Corporate" axles). Never had these problems in the good old DANA days...

All that extra power going through that axle to the wheels, they use the AAM for all the other trucks, but bucked that trend for the SRT. Chrysler is on record saying that they switched to the AAM's because of higher strength and reliability. Makes you want to say, HMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!
