Default Wheel Hop...

I have done a search but all I really find are people with modified suspensions trying to fix this problem.

When I hit the throttle I get some pretty bad wheel hop. Even if going 35 and I smash it it hops. My truck is DEAD stock. Now the tires are getting a little worn, would a better tire help? I have heard something about a "ladder traction bar" what is that? I really don't want to sacrafice any of my payload ability.

it's a 06 hemi 4x4 quad cab.

You can go the cheap way and put some leaf spring clamps on the forward part of the spring or you can go the expensive route and get a set of Caltrac's traction bars which rock!!!!

traction bars wont mess up your payload really they just mont to your leafs and put pressure on them when you accelerate to help keep the wheels from hopping thier pretty cheap and you can get them in all kinds of colors.

my initial thought is your tires. being an ex drag racer the problem with leaf spring suspensions is called axle wrap. the leaf spring will oscillate (looking like a wave). better grip in the rear tires will help this somewhat. i find it hard to believe that it happens from a 35 mph roll. there may be a problem with the leafs themselves or possibly with the bushings. polyurethane bushings will also help this problem and will probably cure whatever the new tires don't.

The cold roads are factoring in here. You will not get wheel hop with a stock Hemiat 35MPH on warm streets.

Mine does the same thing, especially in the winter. The summer it is fine.

Leaf spring clamps? know of any good places to find thoes?

I hope that with just thoes and a new set of tire next year I can solve it. I don't need a drag truck but I got a hemi for a reason I would like to stomp on it a little...

Cheap fix - throw about 75-100 lbs. of sand in bags in the bed just inside each wheel hump. Will stop the hop. Also, for those of you in the northern locals, you'll always have sand for the ice...
