It almost sounds like a cracking noise or a ping maybe from the exhaust system as the metal is expanding or cooling off, after being hot. Happens every 10 seconds or so with the engine turned off and goes on for several minutes. But it seems to be coming more from the engine than from the exhaust or manifolds, really hard to tell, weird. I've had vehicles over the years where there would be a ping from a hot exhaust after turning it off and never gave it a second thought but this 2006 Ram 1500 Hemi has 20000 miles on it and never done this before. Just started doing it. Any ideas or others that have noticed this on their Ram 1500?

thats just the exhaust cooling off, nothing to worry about

 

I thought it probably was just the exhaust system cooling down but i've never noticed it before and now it is very noticable, oh well I won't sweat it anymore, minor detail, appreciate your opinion.

 

My 04 just starting doing that too. It sounds like a the thin metal of heat shield on the exhaust.

Also, the pinging slows in frequency as it cools until it stops.
