Got my used CAI in the mail ...Kinda mad
Well I got my afe CAI in the mail today and I was a little dissapointed but not to a point were I was going to not install it. the arms where fine in great shape but the box was missing parts that I had to buy...The seller said everything was intact from the kit..( Lied )
anyway from what he said on ebay the intake was only used for 2 weeks and he sold his truck..True because the filter looked newfrom inside and out..Only problem was the filter was bent up. the groves that are supposed to be strait are like all bent and moved in other directions..I am assuming he had trouble getting the filter down into the fender !! pisses me off...all and all everything worked out no check engine lights or anything. The intake really opens up when I gas it! And when I am driving normal it seems to have a little more power and really good improvment going up hills ( only time the 4.7 lags for me )
I guess not to bad for $100 comapred to $275

Glad to hear you finished your installation; yes you are right for the price you paid vs retail it was still probably a good deal. You will find very few owners on this forum using the AFE CAI's but that's ok they're just not that well known here. More users are found in the HTC (Hemi Truck Club) and with diesel owners. ALL CAI's have their limitations and many really don't perform as well as stock, just be realistic in your expectations. You will find endless pros, cons and bitching on the uses of a CAI on this forum and many others too - but that's another story***

Intake, Exhaust, and Tuner. Each by themselves is a minimal increase, if any, but combine them, and good driving habits, that's where you'll see the MPG's rise...

Not everybody repeats the lie that aftermarket air intakes improve mpg.
For example, Toyota, Nissan, GM, Ford, Porsche, BMW, Subaru, Hyundai, Kia, Tata, and Suzuki don't believe that...because they have actually run careful MPG tests.
Find a ad from TV or a magazine from an automaker
that says a air intake change is going to improve MPG for that year
....search back 20 years.
Want to read what automakers
'swore under oath to investigators for the US Congress'
what they thought various mods would do for MPG back in 1992 ?

Notice that many of these mods are now coming from the factory?

More airflow cannot = better mileage. You can't magically make more power without consuming more fuel. Airflow is one of the more accurate measurements of the power a vehicle is making when you don't have a dyno.
OEM intakes have one goal: to allow the engine to produce its rated horsepower without making any noise at WOT. If you're willing to live with more noise, you'll get more power, but you won't get any MPG gain because of it.

The only way an intake setup can give you better gas mileage is if it changes the air/fuel mixture as a side effect. This is more likely on MAP systems like Dodge uses; mass air flow vehicles would still read the exact amount of incoming air. MAP relies on static efficiency tables. If you make the engine more efficient (less restrictive intake), more air comes in than was expected, leaning it out a little which gives power and mileage. Too lean = knock which is why you can't just keep pulling fuel.
