yea i really dont want to do that
Why not? It's the way EVERY performance shop I've ever seen does it on the vehicles that go to the track on weekends...

I was actually asked why I kept my shroud when I went in to my local Hemi performance shop to inquire about a cam. I figure these guys, above all, know what the hell they are doing. The owners SRT8 Grand Cherokee is shroudless.

Yea, that was the single biggest reason I kept the shroud. I just thought you may have known of a technical reason not to remove it...

I heard or read somewhere the shroud is actually designed to put the air in the best place to cool your engine. Could be bs, but that's what I heard/read somewhere. LIke anything I hear or read, I take it with a grain of salt until I get proof.

I looked at a friend's 4.7L today (for a different reason). It looked like there would be room to install the e-fan and leave the stock shroud. Most folks that take the stock shroud off do it for looks. I left it on so I wouldn't have to hassle with re-mounting the bottles. These engines are cooled by water, not air, so there's no issue except to make sure the air moves through the radiator easily.

I believe that's exactly what the shroud is designed to do...........get air to flow through the radiator more efficiently.
If the shroud didn't do anything, don't you think that the manufacturers would save a buck or two (actually they cost a lot of $) and leave them off???

The purpose of the shroud is to make sure air moved by the fan passes through the radiator. I had to add one to my '66 LeMans convertible to get some additional cooling. It also helps keep fingers away from the fan. The fan shroud is a relatively recent innovation. I remember many vehicles in my family having none at all. I guess with all the stuff that generates heat these days, without the shroud, the radiator would have to be four feet square.
