Default 2008 Bumper & grill guard

I had a grill guard installed on my 2008 MC, and inorder to get the brackets on, they removed the inset on the bumber (between the chrome lower and the painted upper). Does this piece affect the aerodynamics and fuel ecconomy? I haven't checked the mpg since the install. Should I try to get the insert put back on?

I wouldnt worry about it. Mine has been out for 2 years because of a collision with a dear that cracked it in the middle so I just got rid of it.

Should not have any measurable effect. That piece of plastic has got to be popped out for as little as putting factory tow hooks on, so many are driving around without.
Mines been sitting in my rented storage bin for upwards of two years now...
