confused about tire sizes!!!
OK. So, before i had an 02 yukon with 315/75/16 or something close to thatnature, mud terrains and the tire store says they actually measure out to be and 34.5 inch tire of something of that sort. i read on a post that a guy was worried about his 285/65/20s rubbing on his ram. and yall are saying they measure out to be 34.5". i have an 02 ram now and dont see how the 285/65/20s are measuring the same size as the mud terrains i meantioned first. and i have about a million other questions. so if you guys could help me out with this first and then i will ask for more of your wisdom. thanks

RE: confused about tire sizes!!!
Within a tenth of an inch. There are several calculators available, but take the cross-section (285), multiply by the ratio (.65). That's the height of the sidewall in millimeters. X2 ('cause there's two sidewalls) 285X.65=185.25. X2=370.5. Divide by 25.4 (# of mm in an inch) and add the wheel diameter (20). 370.5/25.4=14.6. add the wheel and get 34.6"

RE: confused about tire sizes!!!
thanks. that makes things a lot clearer. heres a new question. I read, i think it was hammer?, but they were talking about all the guys from GA that he runs with. and yada yada... if this is you who was saying this, i know you are partial to the 4 inch lift which is what i am leaning towards, and you recommend 35 inch tires for full suspension travel. the thing is i dont do much off roading at all. my hunting club has very little serious off road trails and i mainly want to lift my truck for visual purposes. i want to put 37s on 20's. what are your thoughts on this since you know a lot on the subject or should i seriously consider sticking to the 35's... i really want 37s.yours and anyone elses input is greatly appreciated. thanks
