Plow questions
I bought a 2004 Ram 1500 Hemi, 20's, Quad cab in October. Since then my family has purchased a few real estate properties so i've got to thinking of making some use out of the truck, and possible some extra cash to pay for gas....lol
i know we have this great warrenty and that i'll be voiding it but i don't suspect i'll be plowing heavily. anyway do you guys have any advice for me, i.e. - plow brand, plow type, wheels and tires, and anything else anyone could think of.
Thanks for the help
cheers

I'll have to check my owner's manual to see if it says anything about that, but I've got a 2500. It plows snow just fine, so far. Will let you know what mine says.....

I like the Meyer brand. Been using the same blade at the farm since 1979. I'm setting up my Blazer with a Meyer 8ft industrial and an E60 hydraulic system. I really like their products. Easy to use, easy to maintain, and they always seem to work. I've had horrible luck with the Westerns I've had. Did like the Boss V-plow a LOT, but I was running that on a 1-ton.
I didn't mention anything about my plow setup.... I got the Curtis SnoPro 3000 setup. I like it a lot; it's billed as the easiest and fastest mounting unit available, and I believe it. My previous truck had a Fisher, but it was pre-Minute Mount generation. The Fishers are more expensive, and the Minute Mount designation is a real misnomer from what I've heard from actual owners.
I think thats only for the 1500 series models you cant plow due to airbags. The others must be set up differently so use of a plow is possible.

The frames on the 3/4 tons are heavier. The 1/2 tons just don't have the strength to handle the hammering you get with plowing.
I personally don't like the quick-mounts. Of course I plow acres at a time. Usually takes me 3-4 hours to plow my parent's farm out, and I'm guessing it'll take 2 to clear my new farm out. I prefer something a lot heavier duty. And I've got dedicated plow trucks. That's just me though, I'm old school. I don't think they even offer a rigid mounting system anymore. I think the government outlawed them for "safety" reasons. Just tells me they're strong enough for my needs.

There is no issue w/airbags and snow plows, unless you rig it to the bumper! And the warranty is not voided if you use a plow. The only way a warranty is voided is if there is excessive wear to the vehicle(commercially plowing w/a 1500 would be excessive) but if you are plowing your short driveway and a couple other's that wouldn't beat the truck. But as always, read the warranty.
