I have a 2005 dodge ram 1500 5.7 auto 4x4 laramine quadcab i want to know how i upgrade my regular grey key and single remote to a new sentry key i think thats what they call them?I asked the dealership and they said the FCC code was different and they couldn't program the new keys is there something i can buy and install to make them work.Reason being i found the new 08 hemi remote start kitand it comes with the new keys.Any help would be great.

 

The electronics are different on a 2005 than a 2008. Because of the way that the computers communicate on a 2008, I don't know of any that this will work.

 

I would just like to have the functions of the new key i know they came out in 06 and it doesn't have to be an 08 set up.

 

The problem is the way the computers in each truck commincates. On 2005 and back they use a Programmable Communication Interface or PCI. On 2006 and up they use Controller Area Network or CAN. The CAN is a 2 wire system and the PCI is a single wire system. These 2 systems will not talk to each other and parts are not interchangeable.....

 

Can i change the computer?

 

Probably not, but if so, it'll be some big bucks! Someone else can jump in here, but I'd be it would cost over $600 just for the computer. I'd be skeptical you could find someone to make it work.

 

No, its not that simple, you would have to change EVERY electric module on the truck and ALL wiring.
