Driving attitude and thoughts?
Has anyone played with their drivng style to see how much a different attitude would make on gas mileage?
I have a 08 QC 4wd 4.7L and it doesn't matter whether I drive it like grandpa jones (very, very slow) or if I drive it like a nascar driver. The gas mileage does not change 13.8mpg. When I drive it 65, 70, 75, 85, or in and out of traffic at 90 the gas mileage still doesn't change. Another crazy thing is the gas mileage doesn't change if I drive it in tow/haul mode or O/D off. I actually prefer to drive it in the tow/haul mode as the shifts are harder, the throttle response is quicker and when you hit the brakes it down shifts sooner.
another quick question? When I start my truck either when it is warm or if it is stone cold the truck idles at 1500 rpms (for about 2 mins) and you can hear both fans on up front. I swear it sounds like I am going to take flight when I start it in the garage! Does anyone else's truck idle that high on startup? My 07 never did and our grand cherokee (same engine) doens't.

Ithink if you calculated it out by hand driving like a grandpa then driving like a nascar driver you would find a difference in the mpg....
the overhead display shows an average mpg and driving differently for a short amount of time wouldnt change it, if however you drove like a grandpa all the time it would proabably go up (or go down if u drove like a nascar driver all the time)...

you are right about calculating it out by hand, the overhead is not all that accurate.
But with that being said the difference between nascar driver and grandpa was only 0.4 mpg so for that small of a gain I just nascar drive it. lol

I think if you reset the T/C, the mileage will change. Fill it up, reset the mileage computer and then drive like it's Daytona. I suspect it'll be somewhere around 8-10 mpg. Fill it again, reset the mileage computer and drive like Granpa. It'll be boring as hell, but I bet it'll be in the 14-16 range.
Seriously this has been a couple month project I have done and the gas mileage is 13.8 if I drive it like a crazy and 14.1-14.2 if I don't.
These numbers were calculated by hand, not using the computer. I know it sounds crazy but that is what is has been. It also doesn't matter whether I use 87 octane or 89. Using ethanol the gas mileage drops down to 12.2 and 12.8 respectively.
