last audio question i swear. lights dimming.
That depends on what your problem is.
If your problem is your lights dim my suggestion is to just deal with it. It isn't a sign of a problem.
If your voltage is dropping to ~11vyou are reallyonly increasing the wear to the battery and alternator a small amount so again I would probably do nothing. If you have problems then you might consider getting a bigger alternator.
If you are dropping down below 11v but staying above 10v it is just a judgment call. Your alternator and battery will go after enough abuse. You could wait until they do and get a bigger alt then or you could get one now and not have to worry about downtime while you wait for an alternator.
If you are dropping below 10v get a bigger alternator as soon as you can.
I do not recommend spending money on capacitors. If you can get one with a digital volt meter on the top of it for $50 I would say you slightly overpaid for a volt meter but I would consider it acceptable. Once you start dropping below 11.5v or so regularly you could also add a second battery in parallel with you current battery to double your reserve power and thatshould help you floatcloser to12v. I would buy a second battery before buying a cap myself.

Ever seen what happens to an Amp that gets too little power?
It's the same as over powering.
Keni is right,
Buy the Capacitor. It will store the energy that is needed when your Amps need the large draw.
Ever seen a pro setup with out one? Most pros add an extra battery and a capacitor. Up to you. It is your stuff.

Magnum is trying to set your truck on fire..... Dont do that...On second thought, maybe he just meant a smaller number...yea...i hope....
I never run anything smaller than a 4AWG, period. A cap will help with the problem, but LARGER wires and an Optima battery will definitly help too. Try running some 4awg and get back to me...

i can't get a picture of the wire yet because i just got back and it's dark, and id kinda have to go through a lot of trouble to do it. buti read that long post, which makes sense.
this dimming is not just something u can live with. its very considerable. from the outside of the car it looks like im flashing my lights from bright to normal. but like i said i had the amp on full blast, and it was bridged on two 12's. i only ran it like this for a minute or two.

ok.... What are the model #s of the amp and subs you are installing, just out of curiosity.
I had some dimming in my truck, got a 6 Farad cap +1 faradI hadand the problem is mostly resolved. The lights still dim a little, but the real solution for me is the full upgrade. I need to invest in a new battery and alternator. But I am also running 3 amps....

I just did a custom install and i used a x static bat cap the guy told me there was no way that i would be diming the light's he's wrong they dim like crazy we did 6.5 rounds and 6/9 componet set's two amps for those and a 15 with a amp for that we used ot gauge wireing and this this dim's like crazy any idea's o and they are all alpine type r componets. The bat cap 400 is susposed to be like 107 farad
Tankz.... can you post some pics in the "system install with pics" thread. I would really like to see your system. It sounds rockin!
But it sounds like, with the power you are pushing, you need to do the same as me, and change the battery and alternator.
