Default BUYING A 3rd GEN

I am going to be purchasing a 3rd gen 1500 4x4 with a Hemi with the next coupe months. For those who have had a 2nd gen and then bought the 3rd gen (i will be going from a 5.9 to a Hemi) how much of a difference is it, do you like the 3rd gen a lot more? Also, how is it with no solid axle up front? I have been looking around at the 3rd gens and i found a bunch of '03 - '05 trucks with between 25k miles and 50k miles for all good prices...mostly under $20k. Should i be concerned about buying one that is 3-5 yrs old with so few miles?

Thanks

I havent had a 2nd gen, but I absolutly love my 3rd gen. that low of miles on that old of a truck is a little strange, considering that most trucks dont just sit around. if youre buying from a dealer im sure theres no worry, they wouldnt risk setting back the miles!

I'm not worried about someone setting back miles. My conern was the fact that these trucks were obviously sitting around a lot with that few of miles.

I bought my 05 sport hemi 4x4 quad with 26k miles for 21K ,,theres a lot of low milage rams up this way that are off lease.. if miles are limit to 12 or 15 K a yr due to lease , they should be under 30 k miles on the dealer lots. My old ram was an 97 that I traded for my wifes grand cherokee.. I loved that truck and after getting rid of It, I had to have one again.. love the 3rd gen.. better ride , more room and the hemi is great

Well i had a 2nd gen 1500 2wd and went to my 3rd gen 4x4 2500 with the hemi... This truck is on 35's and would eat my 96... I have a solid axle and all but if you want a comfortable ride go for the 1500.... my ride is still pretty nice though considering the axle... My truck only had 25K wen i bought it in July... don't worry about lower miles... i wouldnt at least...

I had an '01 single cab short bed 4x4 with a 318. It was a nice truck, but it had a fairly rough ride and power was severly lacking.

I just bought an '04 1400 quad cab 4x4 with the hemi. This truck has a 6in lift with 37in tires. Even with the lift and tires it pulls hard, it would easily outrun the '01. The ride is very smooth. Even with the lift drives very good. Still feels slow as molases compared to the trans am I tradedthough [>:]

they probably have low miles becuase they were wekkend trucks were the family goes to the mountains or something every once in awhile then they drive a car everyday. almost like a motorhome. I like my 1500 but its a little to small for what I do.

never owned a 2nd gen, but I drove one for work and it was decent. I own a 3rd gen now, '05 1500, absolutely love it. I wouldn't worry about the low miles at all, i boughtmine from a dealership in may with 18,000, just came off a lease. you'll love the 3rd gen.

I had a 97 1500 4x4 with the 360 in it. I now have an 03 1500 2x4 with the hemi and would not go back for nothing. I bought it in May of 07 with 30K on it for 16 grand and just transfered the 7/70 warranty.
