Multi Displacement System Override??
Im new to the forum and did not see anything related to my problem. I have a 07 Dodge Ram 1500 with the Hemi and I thinkthe problemhas something to do with the Mulit Displacement System. These aremy problems,
1.) sometimes when I am leaving from a stop, the truck will go but with no power, then all of a sudden it will just kick in and take off. This leads me to believe that for some reason the MDS is activated then realizes it shouldnt be and turns off when it needs to get going.
2.) When it shifts, it will make a hesitation between shifts making it feelalmost like Imdriving a manual tranny. Same thing, with the no pulling when shifting its seems like the MDS comes on then shuts off when it needs the power to pull again.
Has anyone else noticed this? I havetaken itto the dealer but theynever seem to notice it. They say there is no way to over ride this feature. Over ride or correct something. I never notice it when the truck was new so maybe it jsut needs a little cleanup. It only has about 20,000 miles on it. Anyone have any good news for me?
Thanks
Matt

hey i know EXACTLY wat you are talking about. mine does the same dang thing. i thot there was something wrong so i took it to the dealer too and they drove it around and hooked it up to the computer and said nothing was wrong. i think it has to do wit the electronic shifting. i found it does that when i dont get into the gas much. but i know wat you mean
I don't claim to know all the ins and outs of MDS. I wish my truck had it, though. My 300C has it, and gets better than 20 mpg at 80+. From what I've read, MDS cannot kick in until several parameters are met: minimal throttle position, light load on the engine, fully warmed up, mininum speed (I don't remember what it is), upper gear (I think). Sorry for the uncertainty, but I have complete confidence in the feature. However, if you want to disable it, just put heavier oil in the crankcase. The MDS won't activate unless there is 5w-20 in it. Several posts in the Chrysler forums talk about some wizard accidentally put in the wrong oil, defeating the MDS.
That is interesting, last time I got an oil change at the dealership the guy told me I need new "HEMI OIL" which I thought was a joke but he was serious. He said they put heavier oil in the HEMI's now and that it is a synthetic blend. Kind of pisses me off that in order to keep the lifetime powertrain warranty in good standing I have to get an oil change every 3k miles, but they are charging extra for a synthetic blend which should last longer.
MDS doesn't kick in at idle, or stopped. I think the lowest I've notice it kick in is around 10 mph through a parking lot. That said, you shouldn't ever notice a power increase or decrease with the MDS. Before I had aftermarket exhaust, I never even knew the truck had it.

This is just how the ram shifts, and is why a lot of people buy a programmer to firm up the shifts. however, also note, if you do buy a programmer, the MDS will shift in and out harder also, making it to where you FEEL the MDS shift in and out, and it gets annoying on a long drive..

I've tried different weights of oil, MDS kicks in with all of'em..

what your feeling is not the mds, it does not engage that low. your vehicle has some what an adaptive transmission, if you drive it like a granny for awhile the vehicle will adapt to that driving. you need to get into the throttle a couple of times then try accelerating from a stop, you should feel a difference.
MDS does not kick in on our trucks until they have warmed up to something around 190 degrees engine temp and the speed is above 20 mph. As soon as your speed hits 20 mph or below it is back in V8 mode. Plus, acceleration and load are other factors, but assuming those aren't in play, those are the minimums.
