... but upgrading the stock POS tires would also help alot.
That depends on which tires came stock! My truck as well as many Ram's (I believe all 17" wheels) came with BFG A/T's which are GREAT tires.

I have 4 sand bags in the bed over the axel, and 4x4, I have yet to find snow/ice that could stop or even slow me down. (driving safely of course)

I do my best to keep the tank above 1/2 full and don't normally have a problem that a short stint in 4x4 can't fix.

Thanks for the comments all.

I agree...that tube idea is pretty innovative. I'm still at a loss, though. I don't know what to do. I'm going to head to performance wheel and tire after work today to check out some options.

get the 50 pound and bags like alot of others said. i didnt see anyone say to put it into 4wd. when im in inclement weather and i havent put hte sand in th bed the truck wont go anywhere. put it in 4wd, like on dry pavement. no issues. use your 4 wheel drive......unless of course u dont have it.

My truck has 17" wheels I wish it came with BFG all-terrains.

Tires will only do so much. Weight is your friend, and the truck can easily handle it.

Here in Alaska, my truck is in and out of 4WD probably 2-5 times a day (usually when parking). I'm running AT tires but in 4WD, I'm all set. My truck doesn't evenhave any weight in the back.

4WD is intended for more than off road use....
