The throttle body...

I have an '04 Hemi Ram.Since its drive by wire, and I havent heard of any programmer that does a really good job of taking care of that problem, I got to thinking. What would happen if I made the throttle body opperated by a cable, attached to the gas pedal? The worse case senarioI can come up with is either the truck goessuper lean and I smoke it, or computer hates it and goes into shut down mode.
Any ideas?

yeah personally I think drive by wire is crap, there was absolutely nothing wrong with cable linkage and nothing ever goes wrong with unless you mess with it. With drive by wire you have eletrical problems and the solenoids can go out. Can't tell you how many trucks/cars I see at my dealership(Ford) with problems with the drive by wire.

{soapbox being drug into position and mild rant coming}
i don't personally like the drive by wire controlled throttle body
but it does allow more top end horsepower
without the 'bog' if the vehicle owner tried to slap open the
engine throttle body too quickly
however, if Dodge is going to put the fly be wire system on
why not give the owners more benefits
by raising the compression ratio of the pistons even more
than what normally would cause pinging on 87 to 89 octane
and then let the PCM computer kill off this pinging
by partially closing the throttle body when necessary.
If you add throttle body control closing by the PCM computer
to PCM computer ignition timing retard with knock sensor monitoring
then pinging can be surpressed TWICE as good
and Dodge Ram owners will enjoy better
part throttle cruise MPG.
Raising compression ratio is the most straightforward way
to get better MPG....and also snappy throttle response.
As it is now with the 2003 to 2007 5.7 Hemi
we get all the bad stuff about fly-by-wire throttle bodies
(complication and hard to DIY modify)
and not all the good
(better MPG)
Hopefully the new design 2008 5.7 Hemi with variable valve timing
and the new 4.7 V8 twin sparkplug
will have the changes to bring more benefits,
but the initial press releases are not encouraging.
