in need of HELP
best way to check for a damaged cat is to shake it.. if you hear any sort of rattle.. it needs to be replaced. misfire could be caused by so many factors, id start with the cheapest fix and work my way up until it disappears. good luck!!
theres no tuner on it. i have good flow through the exhaust...i guess ill start checking my plugs/wires. does anyone know where cylender 1 is on an 02 4.7? i dont have my manual
om well im going to check my spark plugs later today or tomorrow sometime...i read it could be the coil packs, plugs, wires, or even the cats.....it said if the cats are bad they would have low air coming out...it has a lot of air coming out but it smells very bad. im in desperate need for help!
take it to the shop and have them hook it up to a scanner. a reputable shop will do this for free. have them run it through data stream and tell you what all your specs are. they can tell you everything fromo2 senser output to exhaust flow and temp. they can also buzz all the injector to ensure there's no problem there. that will keep from throwing money at an unknown problem.
Before you start pulling the ignition stuff apart, try this. After it gets dark outside, or in the garage with the lights off, get a spray bottle with water in it. Spray the wires for the plugs with the engine running, if it looks like there is any sparking from the wires to the engine metal coponents, you need new wires. It kinda sounds to me like your wires are gone and you may be getting some cross firing, and/or grounding of the spark voltage to the chasis (engine). Simple check to verify wires.
ill try that trick tonight with the spray bottle. thanks, although i dont hink thats going to solve the problem ,but you never know. when i blew my water pump, i did have coolant fly everywhere so it could have shorted something out. also if i hook it up to a scanner at a shop...will this tell me EXACTLY what it is?
so my truck blew a water pump last week, i fixed it and repalced the thermostat. works great.then i got an engine code P0051, turned out to be an 02 sensor, i replaced that today. the engine light went off for that, and also it did not help the truck. it still shakes at a certain rpm. and still sputters like its missing. the o2 sensor was supose to fix this problem and didnt. now on the way home the code P0301 came up...i believe this cylender 1 misfire. what do i do and why is my truck sputtering/missing. it also shake at about 1600 rpm and 47mph. major loss in performance. what do i do? please help. all help greatly appreciated.
