4X4 Differential fluid change
Im planning on doing an oil change and changing the diff fluid tomorrow. I have a 2007 1500 hemi 4x4 and was wondering what fluid i needed for the front and rear diff's, and also the quantity of each, thanks in advance.

RE: 4X4 Differential fluid change
its in your manual. and there is a diy at the top.
It depends on if you have a limited slip or not. |
RE: 4X4 Differential fluid change
I dont have a manual, and the DIY does not mention the quantity for the rear dif, just thats its 75w-140, and it doesnt mention anything about the front dif.

Ok thanks, so 75-140 for the rear, and 75-90 for the front, what about quantities? Im also going to be changing the oil, im right at 15,000 miles, what else should i do?

RE: 4X4 Differential fluid change
yeah 75-90 for the front. if you have the limited slip use the 75 140 with friction additive. Just fill it up still it starts to come out the hole where the plug is, then put the plug in.

RE: 4X4 Differential fluid change
they usually come in taller bottles, not sure how much is in each. but i think you need 2 for each. ( i think they only come in one size) You might get away with 3 total though.

RE: 4X4 Differential fluid change
DO NOT fill it to the hole. That is too much and will cause it to bubble and turn to mush. That was the old rule and does not apply to these diffs.
Fill it until its around 1/2 - 3/4" from the hole. Front is around 3.5pts 75 by 90, rear is around 4.9pts 75 by 140, both synthetic. Lke said, use a little bottle of Mopar friction additive to the rear if you have anti slip. |
