i feel you on the budget exhaust. i have an 07 ram 4.7.
lets see, 3" mandrel bent exhaust-stock $0.00
vortex 3" single in/out muffler- $40.00
dual magnaflow exhaust tip- $60.00
12" piece of steel 3" pipe-$5.00

unbolted my stock exhaust and welded the 3" pipe to the muffler, cut to fit the stock pipes, welded it all up,added a hanger,and welded the tip on....for roughly$100 bucks i got a bitchin exhaust system. i left my stock resonator on to cut some of the drone out and i couldnt be happier w/ it

 

I just put my new Flowmaster 40 series on mine for about $100. Cut the stock muffler off and put the FM on there and had it exit out the side with a black chrome tip. Sounds great.
