Default lift opinions

Just bought my 03 Ram 1500 last week, and was looking into lifting it. I was thinking about only lifting it about 3", but was wondering how big I should go on the tires so that they dont look to small for the truck. The tires on it now are 275/60r20. Also, what other size tires would fit the dodge factory 20" rims? Any help and opinions appreciated.

i only have 2wd, you didnt specify, but i have a 3" body lift, and i was going to put 35" tires with a leveling kit. but then i decided im not going to spend so much money on it bc im saving my money for a 07 or 08 black sport QCSB 4x4 hemi

Is your truck a 4x2 or 4x4?
With a 3" lift ONLY you might be able to only get away with 33's.Now stack a 3" body with the 3" lift and you should be able to do 35's.I am not a "BIG" fan of body lifts, and it should be a last resort to lifting but if you want to go bigger, go FULL suspension.

With a 4x4 you can do the 3" lift and a T-bar crank and you may be able to get away with 35's.Since the 4x4's sit taller then the 4x2's from the factory.

May be able to get away with 35's? Would there be any problems with rubbing? And would I have to get new rims as well, or will a bigger tire fit those rims?

I personally do not know if you will rub.It just depends what size tire you get.I dont know the specs of the stock 20's like Offset and all, but getting aftermarket rims you will have a better chance in getting them in.It all just depends on the offset of the wheels which will determine weather you rub or not and the width of the tire. You can get a 285/65/20 to fit with what your going for as far as lift.
I have seen 35x12.5x20 on some 4x4's with the same lift your looking for.So i guess the 35's will fit

With a 4x4, you can get 35's on there with just a torsion bar crank if your going to use your stock wheels.

A 3" body lift you can get 37's on with no problems. Only thing is, when you start getting bigger tires your going to want to regear your truck. From 35 and up I would seriously think about putting 4.56 gears in your truck.
