Electronic Throttle Control warning light
New to the forum. Howdy all.
I have an '03 Ram with a 5.7 Hemi and I have an issue with the ETC warning light.
This only happens when I've been on the interstate for about 60 miles or so. The engine light comes on, the ETC light starts flashing and the cruise control kicks out. This continues until I pull off and shut the engine off. Once I start up again, the ETC light stops flashing and everything runs fine. The engine light usually stays on for a day and then goes out. There has only been one time that I had a performance problem. It happened when I was traveling on a state highway running about 50-60 mph. This time all the above happened and the engine acted like it was missing. After I pulled over and shut the engine off, all went back to normal. It never does it around town.
I recently went to my mechanic and he said there were no codes stored in the computer to read so he couldn't diagnose the problem.
So now my delima is this. It never does it around town, so I can't just stop at the repair shop when it happens. I'm also now afraid to drive it on the highway for fear of being stranded.
Any suggestions?
Bob

Have you tried to pull any codes? Advance Auto Parts will read the codes for you. Does sound weird. How many miles? May just need a throttle body cleaning.
I've already had it to my mechanic who said there were no codes to pull. He suggested that this may be a throttle body problem and refered me to the dealer.
Thanks for the input.
