Infinity Amp Question
I am working on a 2004 Dodge Ram Quad Cab with the Infinity Sound System. The stock amp is located under the dash behind the glove compartment. Now my question is, what are the wattage outputs of this amp. I know there are tweeters in the dash, front door speakers, and rear door speakers. What I plan on doing is replacing the rear door speakers, dis-connecting the front door speakers, and leaving the front tweeters intact. So, I want to know how many RMS Watts the amp pushes per channel to the rear speakers which are currently Xover for highs.
Thanks in advance....

the rear speakers are not powered by the stock amp. The only reason the amp is there becuase the front dash and door speakers are components. Esentially there only one speaker. The front door speakers are the subwoofer part of a 6x9 and the dash are the tweeters. That amp cannot power any after market speaker becuase of the way they wired it. What I did is add a sub. I put new speakers in the rear powered by the new head unit I got. I left the stock stuff up front. Since my front door speakers are rattling like crazy I am probably just going to disconnect them becuase the sub will handle the lows they used to put off. I think I will lose some mid range sound but what ever.
So, the tweeters and the front door speakers are ran through the amp and the rear speakers are run through the HU? Odd, I could not find any speakers wire behind the HU...Does anyone have a wiring diagram and know the power specs on the stock amp?
Discription. The optional Infinity premium speaker system includes a separate Infinity audio power amplifier. The amplifier is a six channel unit and is rated at 240 total output watts (some vehicles may be equipped with a eight-channel unit rated at 368 total output watts). The amplifier is located behind the glove box. If equipped, an additional amplifier rated at 140 watts is located under the center passenger seat.
Operation.
The power amplifier electronically increases the frequency response of the normal audio signal output from the radio amplifier in order to improve the acoustic performance of the speakers. On vehicles equipped with an amplifier, the amplifier section of the radio becomes a pre-amplifier. The amplifier receives audio signal inputs for speaker channels from the radio, then sends amplified audio outputs through six separate channels with dedicated feed and return circuits to the individual speakers.
Straight out of the service manual....

If i were you i would put in an aftermarket amplifier and or head unit to power the factory speakers it will sound alot better than what you are planning to do, also if you go to a best buy, circuit city, or tweeter, you can get the harness for the infinity systems. The harness takes one of the plugs from the factory amp and plugs into that then the wires just get run to the head unit.
Or also you could bypass the amplifier yourself. More work thogh.
