what will a cam do for you? would it make your gas worse?
Depends on the specs of the cam. Depending on the grind, you could have a mildercam that gets better gas mileage, but aftermarket cams are a performance thing, so mileage is not a consideration. The cam I'm going with starts with decent gains of about 40 HP and 25 ft/lb Torque over the stock cam but mine's got a custom grind of about +4 degrees that sacrifices a little of the higher end HP gains for some very dramatic low end torque gains. It also will require stronger springs, pushrods and retainers. As I have aheavily modded and very heavy 4x4, I could care less about the high end HP anyway, for me, it's all about the low end torque. So NO, I guess I won't be seeing better mileage from this cam swap ...

The Comp 260 is a nice mild cam that nets about 30 HP and 20 ft/lbs Torque, does not need any additional valvetrain parts upgraded (although if it were me I'd still get stronger springs - the Mopar 6.1 Hemi springs are much stronger than the 5.7's and are cheap) and I don't know if you'd get better mileage, but I'd doubt you'd lose any fuel economy.
The KRC 210 has a little better gains, but again stock (remember mine is custom ground, necessitating beefier parts be added) only requires the beefier springs.
Both would need some kind of tuning to tame them, but either of these can be tamed quite well with just a Superchips tuner (again, because of the grind, I'm gonna need either a custom tune or a separate piggyback controller.
A lot of people have run the Mopar Hemi 6.1 cam which nets about the same HP gains as the Comp 260, but really sacrifices torque to below stock numbers. I know a lot of guys not happy with that fact that have switched to the Comp 260 and like it a lot better.

And man, did we really hijack this poor thread. But you asked...
