Transmission Flush...what would you do?
So I bought a sweet 04 QC Hemi with 46k miles last may. Since then I've done all oils and fluids except coolant and transmission.
I want to do the transmission, but am unsure if it needs it or not. I didn't get any service records with it.
Here's my rationale. The trans fluid is at the right level, color, and the truck shifts and drives great!
Should I really go spend $200 on a flush and filter change if there is no other indication that it needs to be done besides "I don't know when it was done last"?
thanks for your input,
BZ

do it yourself. you have two filters to replace. how did the other fluids look when you changed them. was there an oil sticker on the windshield when you bought it, how long did he run it between changes. (not a great method as i go 7500 between oil changes)
you could at least drop the pan and refil it, but then if youre already getting dirty you might as well do the job right. coolant should be good for 60k miles. at least thats what the manual says on my 06.

good suggestion, but with the weather (alaska), sloping driveway, barely any tools, andgarage that's not big enough to fit the beast into the only thing I'm comfortable doing is taking it to my local dealer.
I bought it used from a dealer so I don't know squat about the truck except that it was well taken care of by the looks of it.
That's good to know about the cooling, thanks for that.

Change the transmission and fuild right away. The transmission is not a strong part of the driveline. Additionally, you are still covered by the 7/70 warrantee and Dodge would love to decline a claim. The longest interval recomended by Dodge is 30K. Where you are located, they tell you to use the severe schedule that may be as short as 15K. You spent the money on the truck, $200 is cheap insurance.Make sure you use only AFT+4
You're right, and have good points. I just called them and it'll get done tomorrow. I was wrong about the cost it's $259 but still WAY cheaper than a new tranny!
thanks for the push.
thanks for the push.
you made sure theyre gonna drop the pan and replace the filters? a lot of places will just drain flush then fill. ugh.........
alaska, it aint that cold. its only 35F right now, just let your truck run for 30 min so the heat will keep you warm. haha

Ya, we discussed the difference between flush w/ and w/o filters and they're doing it all. That's why it's $259. And they're a freakin' Dodge dealer so they better do it right!!!

are you airforce? why are you in alaska, ive always wanted to live there for a year or so.
Nope, I'm not air force. I'm just here because all the mormons in UT drove me here!! JK. I've got a couple of brothers here and I like the ocean, and the mountains so Alaska makes it all happen.
