Default 30k Mile Service ?

Took road trip this week with the ram. i averaged 15.5 with the cruise set at 60-68, no hard passing etc. Got 11.2 motoring around portland and driving like an *** at 75-90 mph, and then got 14.8 on the trip home at a solid 65-68 cruise control.

My first 20k miles, on this same trip i would get 17 EASY, quite a few trips i got 18.5-19. (this is all mech. figured). I haven't had a good trip with it in about 13k miles, it strictly been on town, with the exception of a few higway trips of about 45 miles.

I have not done my 30k miles service. I would assume that changing the plugs, cleaning the throttle body would help my mileage out? any other ideas or suggestions. I have only used chevron or texaco midgrade fuel.

Basic tune-up should help a lot. Make sure your tires aren't low...you could also jack up the truck and make sure the wheels turn fairly easy. Any kind of binding/drag will kill your mpg...have you already changed the rear/front diff lube for the second time?

basically at 30K your services should be: Frt & Rear diff fluid, T-case, Trans, plugs, air filter, oil change, and PCV valve....changing fluids and going to synthetic will help your mileage a little, plugs would be a good idea as well

One thing I would look at is the air filter, after about 3000 miles on my Dodge I was filling up the washer fluid and checked the air filter. That thing looked like a cigarette butt dropped in a mud puddle, not sure why it was so bad with so few miles but I got an extra mph after replacing it. I guess sitting on the dealers lot may have done it but when I bought it it only had 4 miles.
