Alright, I've got to get a vehicle in Texas- I'm going to school down here to become a commercial pilot and need transportation between school and the airport.

I've got an option to buy an 03 1500.. It's a 2WD 3.7L V6.

Now, I've got an 06 second gen 1500 5.2L v8 sitting in oregon but to drive down would cost too much. instead selling and buying one here seems better. How would these two vehicles compare? Should I go with the 03 or stick with what I've got and drive it down? Any suggestions or things to be aware of in the 03 1500?

You must be buying it for pretty cheap if its cheaper to buy a new truck than drive your old one down ???

 

Well, part of it is that my parents don't think I should drive my current truck down. They are worried about maintenance issues and such which i think it would be fine. I think more of the issue is my dad wants my truck.

The current price is $4995 for the 03 Ram. Which I could sell my truck in Oregon (I think probably to my parents) and then if need be cover some of the cost to get this one. Which is why I want to know if it is something that would be good or if I should keep my current ram and work it out to take it down here despite the cost. Part of the issue is I will probably be doing a bit of driving and the better mpg is appealing on the v6
